Acceptance and
Commitment
Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment Therapy or ACT is a scientifically based theory which offers a roadmap to help you create a rich and meaningful life while effectively handling the pain and stress that inevitably goes with it. I have been an ACT therapist for a clinical trial with Queen Mary University in London since January 2020. You can read my interview with them and find out more by clicking here.

There are 2 main strands to ACT, firstly, learning some simple yet highly effective skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings more effectively so that they have much less impact and influence over you. Secondly,  ACT helps you get really clear on what is truly important and meaningful to you (your values)  and helps you to take small, realistic but achievable steps to living according to these values. It's great to have a first session of ACT and then refer to it throughout therapy. It can be offered over the phone, Zoom or in person.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness isn’t about clearing your mind of thoughts or thinking positively, it’s not a destination, it’s more like developing an ‘awareness and acceptance muscle’. When we struggle with our current experience, trying to avoid our thoughts or feelings or kidding ourselves we don’t really have them can feel like a struggle and it can feel exhausting. Mindfulness offers another way. Of course it’s not going to stop stressful life events from happening, but it’s through this awareness and acceptance muscle, that we can learn to respond to those same stressful events in a way that doesn’t leave us exhausted or feeling stuck. Mindfulness allows us to seethings more clearly.  Acknowledging our experience in turn allows us to make decisions and react with greater knowledge and awareness. It has been found that people spend 47% of their life with a wandering mind – thinking about things that are not presently happening – and that this typically makes them unhappy (Killingsworth and Gilbert, 2010). Mindfulness can be the antidote to this. More than that, developing our ‘awareness and acceptance muscle’ can make daily life richer as we come to savour the beauty of this moment.

Eden Energy Medicine
(The Eden Method)

EEM, now known as The Eden Method is an approach that involves balancing and restoring your body’s natural energies to help increase your vitality and optimising your physical, mental and emotional health. The form I use draws from the inspirational work of Donna Eden (www.innersource.net).

Find out how I helped Sarah on her journey to healing from Multiple Sclerosis. Click here.

These techniques trace back to ancient healing and spiritual traditions such as yoga, tai chi and acupuncture. The core concept is that your personal well-being and effectiveness are directly related to the state of your body’s energies. These energies play a vital role in our everyday health and well-being. The techniques I use are based on the premise that by promoting balance and flow in the body’s electromagnetic and subtle energies, health and well-being are enhanced. These techniques move, balance, enhance and restore the body’s energies. During a session, I will place my hands on or over the body to help your body and mind to come into balance. You may wish to work on a specific issue over 4-6 sessions or choose from the treatments below.

Sessions

Chakra clearing and balancing

Working with your chakras not only benefits you in a physical and emotional sense, helping heal and/or prevent problems; it also helps you fulfil your spiritual potential. It is especially effective in bringing balance to our emotions and hormones and can be particularly helpful during menopause. Lots of clients become deeply relaxed and fall asleep, some clients have described it as feeling like shamanic work.  Chakras are whirling pools of energy. There are 7 main chakras running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Chakras contain an energy memory or imprint of every single significant emotional or important event. Chakras also bring new energy into the body and transport old or stagnant energy out of the body. In this way they are a link between the physical body and the energies outside the body. Each chakra links to organs, muscles, ligaments, veins and any body parts that are covered by them. Thus they can have a huge impact on maintaining your overall health.

Harmonise the fire

I learnt this from the amazing Dr Melanie Smith and it is fantastic for feeling stuck, depleted or exhausted. It works by bringing balance through acupressure points. It is fantastic for de-stressing the body and balancing hormones and adrenals and bringing a sense of calm and groundedness. Most people drift off to sleep and awake feeling relaxed and restored.

Diamond Inlay

There is so much to say about this transformational protocol and I can’t do it justice here so do give me a call. Working with the Diamond Inlay is especially relevant for anyone familiar with energy work as a recipient or a practitioner. It’s about connecting to a higher consciousness, raising your own consciousness and ushering you to your highest potential. It’s perfect for those wishing to deepen intuition but can also be helpful if you feel spiritually lost or stuck. This involves a face to face session, an optional online follow up and home practice. You will need to do the follow up practices 4-5 times a week for 2-3 weeks, then once a week thereafter.

£145- includes

Session= 1.5 hours in person

Follow up session Q and A online 30-45 minutes.

Includes videos of the home practices

Hypnotherapy

Although there are no guarantees with any therapy, hypnotherapy is a powerful approach and brings about exciting changes in most people, for most problems, most of the time. It can be helpful for many issues including fears and phobias, troubling memories, tests, exams and operations, sleep, stress and worry.

I have been a hypnotherapist for Cavendish Cancer Care since 2015, working in hospitals and at their centre with cancer patients and their carers to help ease the impact of a cancer diagnosis, this might mean helping feel more relaxed and comfortable when having surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, awaiting test results and the fear that may accompany a diagnosis.

So What is hypnotherapy?

SPOILER! It’s NOT making you dance like a chicken!

There are many myths about hypnotherapy so let me put you at ease.

In our session I’ll use gentle suggestions to help you become very deeply relaxed so you enter a pleasant, day-dreamy like state, often referred to as ‘trance’. Then, together we direct the focus of the mind towards dealing with the problem. The suggestions I give are devised from a discussion around your own needs and goals and your unconscious mind will reject any that you don’t want to take on board. Although I will facilitate, you control going into a trance and bringing yourself out, back to your current state of mind and safe to drive, etc.

You can be taught how to use the state of trance for yourself and can use relaxation at home, helped by recordings that I can provide.

Emotional Freedom
Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT is the first therapy I trained in all those years ago because I’d had a fantastic session with a therapist after having a panic attack whilst teaching.

You can learn to use it as a self-help calm down tool or you can work in a more focused way with me to find relief from your particular issue. It’s fantastic at shifting unhelpful thought patterns or limiting beliefs and balancing body and mind.  For thousands of years, wisdom traditions have found relief from physical and emotional distress and dis-ease by working with specific points on the body. These points, known as acupressure points are related to energy pathways called meridians and are what acupuncturists use. But there’s no need to use needles, instead we tap on these points.

Perhaps the area I am most drawn to as I see the most profound changes in people is with using compassion tapping. For most of us, there are things we experienced and learned when we were younger that may have been too great or overwhelming for us to make sense of as either our brain simply hadn’t developed fully yet, or our reasonable brain was simply overridden by panic or fear. Situations that might not appear that significant to others can really bother us and we might find ourselves feeling strong emotions and out of control. Compassion tapping is one of the best ways of integrating these earlier experiences, so that we can respond in a way that works better for us.
